Understanding Sewage Sludg:
• It contains over 60,000 toxic chemicals.

• Approximately 28 million lbs. of waste ends up as sewage sludge and is sold as biosolids each year.

Go Organic!!...

Here is Reason #4 why its so valuable to eat organic food like we do here at HHI!  No GMOs!

Understanding GMO:
• GMOs are a result of taking a gene from one species and inserting into a completely different species.
• The most common trait added to GMO food is the ability for the plant to produce its own pesticide making it toxic (and not just to insects).
• Many of these inserted genes have never been in the human food supply before.and are coming from bacteria.
• GMOs have been linked to allergies, infertility, gastrointestinal disorders, migraine headaches and lowered immune systems.
• 60-70% of processed foods have genetically modified ingredients.
• You can download a free non GMO shopping guide from the Institute for Responsible Technology.and shop wisely.
• If you want to learn more you can watch the film (Genetic Roulette) or read the book (Seeds of Deception) both by Jeffrey Smith and available in our HHI store!
• Once genes are manipulated between species, we cannot recall it or contain it.  Make a difference in your own health and in the future of the natural world and  buy organic.
• Every choice we make matters....

Best Tips of Hippocrates Health Institute

Garden Tip - African Blue Basil:

African Blue Basil is a great plant to grow here in south Florida. It withstands heat and drought, tolerates sandy soil, and unlike regular the bugs do not bother it. It seems to be virtually impervious to mold. Like regular basil it has a sweet taste with just a hint of camphor. It is a perfect substitute for regular basil for culinary use to make a flavorful pesto or as an addition to sauces, dressings, and as a garnish.

African Blue Basil is easily propagated by the plant’s trimmings. The flowers never need to be pinched off because African Blue basil will not go to seed and die. However, it prolifically produces beautiful lavender pink flowers that attract pollinators. Here at Hippocrates Health Institute we have plenty of African Blue Basil growing in our Organic Garden for the benefit of our kitchen and our guests.

Fun Fact Friday - Understanding Artificial Fertilizer

Here is reason #2 why its so valuable to eat organic food like we do here at HHI.  No artificial fertilizer!

Understanding Artificial Fertilizer

It creates excess nitrogen in our soil which:
• Runs off into our oceans and creates "dead zones" where nothing can live.
• Has already created a "dead zone" in the Gulf of Mexico which is the size of New Jersey. :(
• Destroys an ecosystem known as humus which is where microorganisms live that help maintain the natural nitrogen cycle necessary for the food chain to thrive.
• Contains harmful salts that create hardpan in the soil and lock up water and nutrients.
• Increase toxic nitrates in our food which carry cancer causing risks.
