Dr. Tung’s Earth Day Giveaway

As we pause to celebrate the importance of Earth Day and honoring our environment today, Hippocrates Health Institute are excited to partner with sustainable dental health products company,
Dr. Tung’s, for an exciting giveaway on this holiday!

Dr. Tung’s commitment is to offer our customers natural, more effective, leading-edge oral care products. Good oral health is an integral part of overall health, and they integrate modern and traditional knowledge to produce highly effective products for you and your family. They use only natural ingredients and flavoring, and have a long-term commitment to recyclable and biodegradable materials.

Hippocrates Health Institute proudly carry four Dr. Tung’s products in our store:

Ionic Toothbrush – Unlike regular toothbrushes which try to force plaque off the teeth by friction, the IONIC brush makes the teeth let go of plaque, like turning off a magnet! A recent independent report showed that ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSHES, including SONICARE and ORAL-B, do not remove significantly more plaque than a regular manual toothbrush! Yet the Ionic toothbrush has been clinically shown to remove up to 48% more plaque than a manual brush!

SmartFloss – Smart Floss dental floss is clinically proven to be more effective than regular floss. It has been shown to remove up to 55% more plaque than some of the most popular flosses, i.e. regular waxed and un-waxed flosses and PTFE monofilament floss (compare to Glide). The floss is lightly waxed with a natural blend of vegetable and beeswax (no petrochemical wax) and has a natural cardamom flavor. It also comes in a biodegradable container.

● Stainless Steel Tongue Cleaner – Used and recommended by dentists and hygienists, Dr. Tung's cleaner is the leading tongue cleaner in the health market and is sold in health stores and dental offices around the country.

Snap-On Toothbrush Sanitizer – The Snap-On Sanitizer is a REVOLUTIONARY product that releases all-natural, anti-bacterial vapors to kill germs and safely sanitize your toothbrush between brushings. The new pack with Snap-In refill now gives 6 months total protection per pack - this is 50% more than the old pack. Plus it saves 46% plastic over the old one.

Grow Your Own Asparagus

Asparagus has the highest glutathione levels of any food. Glutathione is the master phytochemical and is unmatched in its ability to remove poisons from the body. Asparagus is one of the best cancer fighting foods. It is also rich in B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium, and iron.

Asparagus is a cool weather perennial crop that thrives in any area having winter ground freezes. If properly planted and cared for it will keep coming back and producing for 20 years or more! Here is how to grow asparagus:

• Choose an area of your yard that is well drained and receives full sun. Prepare a planting bed 5 feet wide by 10 feet deep by removing all grass and roots and then turning in at least 50% well aged compost 12 inches deep into the existing soil. The richer the better.
• Purchase twenty 1-year old ‘Jersey Knight’ or Jersey Giant’ crowns. This should produce enough be adequate for a family of three.
• Soak the crowns in compost tea for 20 minutes prior to planting.
• Make 4 rows 12 inches apart. Plant the crowns 6 inches deep with 24 inch spacing.
• Cover the crowns with 3 inches of soil. After two weeks cover again with another 3 inches of soil. After another two weeks add more soil until the soil is slightly mounded above ground level to allow for settling.
• Cover with mulch so your tender young spears do not have to compete so much with weeds.
• Water regularly. At least once every three days if it is not raining.
• Fertilize three times a year with compost tea or side dress with compost.
• Spray once a week during the growing season with insecticidal soap or pepper spray.
• During the winter months cover with 6 inches of straw or light mulch to provide protection from the cold.
• Don’t harvest any spears in the first two years so that all their energy can be used for establishing deep roots.
• In the third year, harvest one-fourth your crop every week over a four week period. Use a sharp knife to cut the spears at the ground level.
• In the fourth year harvest one-eighth of your crop over an eight week period.

Fresh-picked spears are far more tasty and tender than store-bought ones. Enjoy!

“Food is Medicine Event”- Hippocrates Health Institute's invitational conference on the metabolic approach to cancer

May, 2014, Private Event-Food is Medicine. Dr. Brian Clement and Dr. Anna Maria Clement of the Hippocrates Health Institute, West Palm Beach, Florida have joined forces with the George W. Yu Foundation and are holding an invitation only focus group of multi-disciplinary experts to discuss the metabolic common denominators underlying cancers, Alzheimer’s and Diabetes. In addition to scientists, clinical doctors, and health experts we have invited nutrition journalists, writers, public relations, and social media experts to help build momentum and public awareness regarding the present state of the fight against cancer and the prevention of disease to this private event.

Why is it that for the last 80 years it has been known that eating a low calorie nutrient dense diet increases longevity by 30%, arrests cancer growth and preserves the brain from degeneration? Yet there is neither a drug nor supplement that mimics this phenomenon!

Though so much evidence points to a defective energy metabolism or bioenergetics in so many diseases and simple nutritional manipulations can play such an important role in reversing poor health and chronic diseases, there is little attention, nor awareness, among the lay public and professionals. The discoveries of new molecules that selectively injure cancer cell energy are too critical to ignore, yet there is no funding to expand the research and development. We are excited to take the lead in shifting the paradigm from traditional medicine practices. So the initiative of this meeting is to unite and form the consortium needed to bring these concepts to a broad audience – the world.

Eat Right & Live Longer

– An age-defying diet

Originator: Dr. Neil Barnard is the President of the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine.

Claims: A vegetarian low-fat diet protects cells from disease, cleans the blood, boosts immunity and balances hormones. The diet will help you avoid contaminants in food, and a vegetarian diet is the best for weight control. Using this method will get you off diets forever.

Sustainability: It’s difficult for people who are not committed to a vegetarian lifestyle to follow. There is no meat or dairy, and people need more time to prepare food. The diet lacks vitamin B, and vitamin D and downplays their importance. Additionally, it doesn’t take into account the fact that your body produces less vitamin D with age.

Weight loss: If you follow it accurately, you should lose weight.

Research: Studies indicate this type of diet can decrease the risk of diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and cancers.

Quick take: A low-fat vegetarian diet with organic produce to boost immunity, balance hormones and protect cells from damage.

The Okinawa Program

– An age-defying diet

Originator:  Identical twin brothers Bradley and Craig Wilcox are both Assistant Professors at the University of Hawaii and Okinawa University in Japan.

Claims: A low-fat, low-calorie and high fiber diet from plant foods with a strong emphasis on exercise, family relations and spiritual connectedness will result in substantial weight loss. The findings are from the Okinawa Centenarian Study showing that heart disease, strokes and various cancers are extremely rare, and people regularly live to more than 100 years old.

Sustainability: The diet contains 50 percent complex carbohydrates from 3 food groups consisting of foods rich in flavonoids and omega 3 fatty acids. The authors recommend avoiding foods with a high glycemic index. Based on such a dramatic change in lifestyle diet and your basic approach to life, it’s doubtful that the majority of people who want to lose weight are ready to make such a drastic change. The diet is low in calcium.

Weight loss: The Okinawa Program has no calorie count or portion control, but will result in weight loss if closely followed.

Research: Studies indicate that when the Okinawan adopts more of a western diet and lifestyle, their rates of overweight illness increases and life expectancy decreases.

Quick take: A total diet and lifestyle program based on Eastern philosophies with plant-based carbohydrates, fiber, stress reduction and support essential to longevity.
